Aldactone-A is a drug which is prescribed to treat conditions where a patient may have too much aldosterone in the body. Aldosterone is a hormone which is produced by the adrenal glands to help regulate the salt and water balance within the body. Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic (water pill), which works by preventing your body from absorbing too much salt and keeps the potassium levels in your body from getting too low. Aldactone-A also treats fluid retention, also known as edema, in people who suffer from congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and nephritic syndrome which is a severe kidney disorder.

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Aldactone-A including nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, upset stomach, gas, and skin rash. More serious side effects may include numbness or tingling, muscle pain or weakness, slow or uneven heartbeat, feeling drowsy, feeling restless, feeling light headed, urinating less often, shallow breathing, tremors, confusion, nauseas, low fever, loss of appetite and jaundice. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Aldactone-A to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Aldactone-A comes in tablet form. Never crush, chew or break tablets unless directed to do so, as this may cause for too much of a drug to be released at once which could have undesirable effects. Aldactone-A should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Aldactone-A, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including liver or kidney disease, if you are unable to urinate, if you have high potassium levels, if you are taking potassium supplements, if you have heart disease, or if you are using steroids. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Aldactone-A, including lithium, digoxin, steroids, ACE inhibitors or NSAIDs. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Aldactone-A may cause harm to unborn and new born babies.
