Ritomune is an antiviral medicine which is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Ritomune is not a cure for HIV. It only prevents the virus from multiplying in your body. Monitoring of liver function and blood glucose levels is necessary while receiving this medicine.
The active ingredient present in Ritomune is Ritonavir. Each Ritomune tablet contains 100 mg of Ritonavir.
Ritomune reduces the amount of HIV and helps to increase the number of CD4 (T) cells in your blood. Patients who took this medicine in clinical studies had significant reductions in both death and AIDS defining diseases; however this medicine may not have these effects in all patients.
The dosage of Ritomune for adult patients is 600 mg twice a day with meals. The Ritomune dose for pediatrics patients The recommended twice daily dose for children greater than one month of age is based on body surface area and should not exceed 600 mg twice daily with meals.
Side effects of Ritomune alone or in combination with other antiretroviral drugs were gastrointestinal (including diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain (upper and lower)), neurological disturbances (including paresthesia and oral paresthesia), rash and fatigue/asthenia.
