Zurig (Febuxostat) is an oral medication prescribed to treat patients suffering from conditions caused by high uric acid levels such as gout or kidney stones. The medication reduces the production of excess uric acid to prevent its build-up in the joints to stop symptoms such as pain, swelling, or discomfort. Your doctor may also prescribe its use for the treatment of other unlisted conditions, as well.

Zurig is normally administered once each day at a dosage of one tablet, but your particular instructions will depend on your health condition and the severity of your symptoms. Your individual instruction will depend on your age, weight, health condition, and the severity of your symptoms. These should be swallowed with a full glass of water and may be taken on an empty stomach, but a snack or meal is recommended before use if you experience nausea. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablets as this may destroy or alter the effects of their contents. Ask your doctor any questions you have about the medicine to make sure you are using it correctly.

The use of Zurig may cause side effects in some patients such as: dizziness, nausea or vomiting, joint pain or stiffness, mild skin rash.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects such as sudden numbness, severe fatigue, intense headaches, sensation of pressure on the chest, trouble breathing, tingling sensations, darkened urine, discoloured stools, or jaundice. These conditions may require lower doses, reduced frequency of administration, or emergency medical attention in serious cases to prevent further complications from occurring.

Zurig should not be used to treat patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, lactose intolerant, who have high uric acid levels caused by cancer, ischaemic heart disease, or taking other similar medications. Also inform your doctor if you are taking theophylline, allergic to allopurinol, if you have had a bad reaction to similar treatments in the past, or if you have an overactive or underactive thyroid gland, reduced liver function, or reduced kidney function. These conditions may require special adjustments to your regimen to prevent unexpected health problems from occurring.

Strictly use Zurig as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Zurig may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
